9.45 Ma + Steve Arguelles
Tom Challenger – Tenor Sax
Ross Stanley – Organ
Dave Smith – Drums
Plus Special guest Steve Arguelles Drums/Electronics
At times fearsome and at times tranquil, each three draw on their own musical experiences and travels to create a palette which includes folksy melodicism, bustling drones, bluesy walkabouts, and the grittiest of grooves. After being active for around 18 months, the band successfully released their debut album, ‘JYKETIE’. Recorded in one day in a back room at the infamous (and sadly defunct) Red Rose, the album is testament to the blistering highs and earthy lows the band regularly achieves whilst in performance. They have recently invited Drummer/Sound Manipulator/Producer Steve Arguelles, who is now performing with them in an expanded line-up. MA will be touring and recording extensively in 2009.
8:30 Dog Soup (Album launch!)
Robbie Robson – Trumpet/Electronics
John Turville – Rhodes
Johnny Brierley – Bass
Tim Giles - Drums
The band began as a transcription project to play the music of Miles Davis’ 1969 "lost quintet" which is one of Miles’ seminal bands, but due to the fact that there are no commercial studio albums recorded by the unit, the music is relatively unknown, and rarely played. They have recently recorded their debut album, due for release in time for the festival.
9:30 Ivo Neame Quartet
Ivo Neame – Piano
Jim Hart – Vibes

10:30 Dave Kane / Alex Bonney (Lima collaboration)
Alex Bonney - Trumpet
Dave Kane – Double Bass
Dave Kane and Alex Bonney's improvising duo is full of surprises. Traditional roles of trumpet and double bass are exploded and the sonic potential of their instruments is explored. The duo's action packed and playful range of textures and dynamics combine with a strong melodic sensibility and an uncanny interplay between the two musicians.
11.15 Fraud + Stian Westerhus (Norway)
James Alsopp – Tenor Sax/Bass clarinet
Tim Giles – Drums/Electronics
Phillip Hochstrate – Piano/Electronics
Ben Reynolds – Drums
Plus Stiaan Westerhus - Guitar
Fraud is the brainchild of multi instru-mentalist James Allsopp and drummer Tim Giles and features the daemonic antics of guitar antichrist Stian Westerhus, the frankly sick drumming of Ben Reynolds and the keyboard melting styling’s of fraudulent German Philip Hochstrate. Their music, composed by Allsopp and Giles, combines ruthlessly trimmed grooves, an abattoir approach to improvisation and electronic soundscapes with a cut and paste approach to structure.

11.30 Sam Crockatt Quartet (feat Gwilym Simcock)
Sam Crockatt – Tenor Sax
Gwilym Simcock – Piano
Oli Hayhurst – Bass
Dave Smith – Drums
Formed 6 years ago, the Sam Crockatt Quartet grew out of a long-standing friendship and musical partnership between Gwilym Simcock and Sam Crockatt. They met at the Royal Academy of Music and played together in a number of different bands as well as doing just about every duo function gig in town! Although Gwilym came from a classical background and Sam from traditional jazz, they found plenty of common ground, including a love of melody. Inspired by Pete Churchill’s composition classes at the Academy, Sam started writing music and the idea of a quartet was formed. This combination of friends and like-minded musicians has led to a band that obviously enjoys playing together and has a rich, cohesive sound.
